One of the highlights of visiting Almaty is attending the Annual Almaty Marathon, which is being held on 23rd April 2017 this year. The race which started in 2012 had only to 2500 participants and it grew to more than 19,000 participants from 40 countries in 2015. The Almaty marathon is a member of International Marathons and Distance races and the primary goal of the marathon is to raise funds for various developmental and charity work in Kazakhstan.
The course of the marathon starts at the Park of the First President in Almaty and then proceeds along the Al-Farabi Avenue and the Eastern Bypass road. After making a U-turn, it returns past the start line to Abay Avenue. The race finishes with a 300m run within the Central Stadium. The marathon has five events: Individual races at 3km, 10 km a half-marathon (21 km), a full marathon (42 km), and an ekiden-style marathon relay. Marathon for participants aged 18 and over;
Half Marathon for participants aged 18 and over;
10k race for participants aged 15 and over;
Nordic walking for participants aged 15 and over;
Kids' race for 3k for participants aged from 10 to 14;
Corporate relay Eidem for teams of 6 participants aged 16 and over.
Minimum entry fee:
Till April 1, 2017:
Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k race, Nordic walking - 4000 KZT.
Kids' race for 3k - 2000 KZT.
From April 1, 2017:
Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k race, Nordic walking - 5000 KZT.
Kids' race for 3k - 2000 KZT.
